18th century English Georgian or French Louis XVI signet fob seal in gold setting for attaching to a fob chain or a chatelaine.
It shows the Greek/Roman mythological scene of the beautiful boy, Ganymede, being abducted by Zeus in the form of an eagle. Zeus brought Ganymede to the home of the gods on Olympus, there to become the gods' taster.
The scene is intaglio carved into quartz.
